I’m a painter and photographer based in the Southeast (US) currently rediscovering a childlike life through abstract art and playful experimentation. I watch my toddler scribble across the page and hope to create with her same instincts — with a free spirit, treating every color like it’s my new favorite.
I’ve fallen into the trap of perfectionism plenty of times. Having told myself that art needs to look exactly like its subject matter in order to be called “good,” I spent years holding my breath while trying to get the details just right.
Now I’m exhaling a sigh of relief and reminding myself art can look like whatever I want. I’m exploring color theory and mark-making while letting my hands and heart do the heavy lifting… and guess what?
I’m having fun again!
Make Space for Fun
My creative work these days is always evolving, but I’m enjoying using a variety of mediums on canvas and paper, including acrylics, water colors, paint pens, oil pastels, crayons, soft pastels, and more. I have a tendency to work in layers and jump around from one painting to another while each layer dries — which is why you’ll notice some shared color palettes between pieces. I love to give some of my paintings a little sibling, but no two paintings are ever identical. They’re sisters, not twins!
